There is some good news for the Delhi Capitals fans and the team ahead of the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Shreyas Iyer, the middle order batsman of the Indian Cricket team and the captain of IPL team Delhi Capitals, has been declared fit to play by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He can resume playing matches and is all set to play in the second leg of the IPL starting September 19.
He is all set to join Delhi Capitals once again. He was not a part of the team in the first phase of IPL 2021 due to an injury. Under his captaincy the team had reached the finals in IPL 2020. Rishabh Pant was the captain of the team after Iyer was injured.
IPL 2021 was postponed midway due to the detention of COVID-19 cases. Iyer who is 26 years old, had played 22 ODIs and 29 T20 Internationals for India so far.
He had to undergo an operation in the UK due to a slipped shoulder during the March 23 ODI against England in Pune. The BCCI sources confirmed, “Yes, the NCA has given the fitness certificate to Shreyas Iyer. He stayed at the NCA in Bengaluru for a week and his fitness was assessed a few days ago. After examining the medical and physical parameters, he is now ready to play matches.”
