On Friday morning, heavy rain pelted numerous sections of Bengal, including Kolkata, flooding several areas of the city. This severe thunderstorm and rainstorm had been anticipated by the weather service two days prior.
Rain caused traffic gridlock in the city during business hours because several roadways were still flooded. Under the impact of a low-pressure trough over the Bay of Bengal, the state has been getting a lot of rain in the last several days. This comes at a time when numerous West Bengal districts including Kolkata are experiencing major flooding as a result of continuous rains and consequent water discharge from Damodar Valley Corporation dams.
In the previous 24 hours, Kolkata has received 21.6 mm of rain.Due to the relentless rain in West Bengal over the past several days, at least 15 people have died and over three lakh people have been displaced.
