I had come here with only one target, a gold medal. This is okay, but it’s not gold’, says Ravi Dahiya.

‘I had come here with only one target, a gold medal. This is okay, but it’s not gold’, says Ravi Dahiya.

Ravi Dahiya is India’s sixth Olympic silver medalist. When he was told he had to go backstage for the medal ceremony, he grumbled and trudged across.

Dahiya had the appearance of someone who had been compelled to stand on the Games podium, the pinnacle of an athlete’s career. His sad expression contrasted sharply with that of the other two victors as he took the medal from a gleaming plate and wore it around his neck.

Dahiya was eliminated in the 57-kg final, but not before giving his Russia adversary and two-time world champion Zavur Uguev a scare with a 7-4 victory.
