Anshu Malik, a teenage Indian wrestler, lost her first Olympic battle to Belarus’ Iryna Kurachkina earlier today at the Tokyo Olympics.

According to the rules, any wrestler who loses to one of the eventual event finalists will be given a chance to earn the bronze medal in a repechage round. Anshu Malik will have a chance to earn the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics when IrynaKurachkina qualified for the final of the Women’s 57kg weight division.

A wrestler who loses to either of the finals wrestlers in a Repechage round has a chance to earn bronze. In the first match of the repechage, Anshu will face Valeria Koblova of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). She will proceed to the repechage match no. 2 if she wins the match. If she doesn’t, she’ll be forced to withdraw from the competition.
