International Tiger Day 2021

Every year on July 29, International Tiger Day or Global Tiger Day is commemorated to raise awareness about tiger conservation. The day was established in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia. The goal of the day is to create a global system for safeguarding tigers’ natural habitats and to boost public awareness and support for tiger conservation.

Cutting down trees, which causes habitat degradation, killing, and illegal trade in tiger body parts are all contributing factors to the tiger population decline. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) estimates that there were 100,000 tigers around the turn of the century. In 2010, the number was substantially reduced to 3,200. As a result, preserving these wild cats becomes critical.
