Morikawa hoisted the Claret Jug on a sun-drenched day near the English Channel, claiming his second major while holding off major champions Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, and Louis Oosthuizen.

Morikawa made history by being the first guy to win both the PGA Championship and the Open in his first attempt at the British major.

Morikawa was 2 over through his opening six holes and four strokes behind playing partner Louis Oosthuizen, who led by 18 holes, 36 holes, and 54 holes.

On longer putts, Morikawa proceeded with the traditional approach, and the results were amazing. He appeared to make all of his huge putts. Over his final 31 holes, he scored eight birdies and did not make a bogey. On Sunday, Morikawa scored his first birdie of the day at the par-5 seventh hole, which turned the tournament around. Oosthuizen made a bogey on the same hole. The margin of victory was two. Nobody could ever catch him, even Spieth, who shot 66 as well.

He made a wonderful birdie putt at the 14th and salvaged a great par at the 15th when things looked to be tightening up. Morikawa pursued a 125-yard wedge shot onto the green at the par-4 17th, a superb links-style approach that many take years to master.

Morikawa only had four bogeys throughout the week. He put like Tiger Woods and struck the ball like Jack Nicklaus. He also made history by being the first man golfer to win two major championships on his first appearance in each of them.
