In countries with low vaccination coverage, terrible scene of hospitals overflowing is again becoming the norm

The world is in a very dangerous period of the Covid pandemic. The dander is increased more by transmissible variant like Delta, which is continuing to evolve and mutate. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned the world.

According to him, countries with low vaccination coverage, are again facing terrible scenes of hospital overflowing with patients. This is becoming a norm now.

“Compounded by more transmissible variants, like Delta, which is quickly becoming the dominant strain in many countries, we are in a very dangerous period of the pandemic,” Ghebreyesus said at a press briefing on Friday.

according to him no countries are out of the woods yet. Delta variant has been detected in at least 98 countries and it is spreading quickly in countries with low and high vaccination coverage.

According to him, there are two ways to fight against new surges. One is, public health and social measures like strong surveillance, strategic testing, early case detection, isolation and clinical care. The second one is, masking, physical distance, avoiding crowded places and keeping indoor areas well ventilated are the basics to fight Delta variant.

The WHO chief also shares that the world must equitably share protective gear, oxygen, tests, treatments, and vaccines. He had urged leaders across the world to work together to ensure that by this time next year, 70% of all people in every country are vaccinated.

The Delta variant, first detected in India. It is now being reported in nearly 100 countries.
