Four women working in NGO killed in terrorist attack in Pakistan

Four women were shot dead by militants in Pakistan's North Waziristan district. North Waziristan Police said in a statement that unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle carrying the women at Mir Ali in a major city.

A local police officer, Iqbal Khan, said the attack took place in the main village of Mir Ali, a town in North Waziristan district. District police chief Shafi Ullah Khan has also confirmed the attack. He said that the police have launched a search operation in the vicinity in an attempt to locate and arrest the attackers. The attackers are believed to have fled into the nearby mountains. No one has claimed responsibility for the incident. Police said the terrorists clearly had prior notice of the arrival of women. They were waiting for the women to arrive.
Pakistani terrorists have increased their activities in the region in recent months. There are fears that they are regrouping in the former Taliban stronghold. Militants often attack Pakistani soldiers in the former tribal areas bordering Afghanistan. In North and South Waziristan districts are acting as main base for local and foreign terrorists.
